If you are a Christian and you feel you have a hectic life then this book just may help you out in ways you may not have considered. The book is easy to read and understand with a wealth of information. Several points I found myself nodding and feeling like it was written about me. Other points I could see how a person could get that way or feel that way and I was thankful to have a path towards less chaos. Anyone who relies on To-Do lists or tries to, will understand the point of this book. I like that it has a Christian theme without being preachy. The Chase: Trusting God with Your Happily Ever After by Kyle Kupecky

The Chase: Trusting God with Your Happily Ever AfterThe Chase: Trusting God with Your Happily Ever After by Kyle Kupecky
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book reads well enough, it’s understandable and easy to follow. It is geared more towards the younger group such as high schoolers so it missed hitting the mark for me on several levels. I am not sure I’d take everything that is delivered in the book to heart even if I were younger. This is great for the stricter type of faith and for using with youth groups. Overall it’s a good book definitely aimed for a specific audience. I received an ARC through Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

10 Things Great Dads Do by Rick Johnson

With all of the self-help books available it can be difficult to narrow down the choices and to find one that is actually helpful. I’m not a dad but I am very lucky to have a dad who is wonderful, wise, generous and kind. Parts of this book felt like Johnson was talking about my dad. Perhaps that lended a bit of bias in enjoying the read so much. I found the book easy to understand and full of valuable information that a dad could use to become more than just the father. Kids today need a great role model in their dad. I’m so happy that this book contains all the right elements. I received an ARC through Revell Publishing in exchange for and honest review. Review by Christina: “I liked the wealth of information that I found in reading this book. There seems to be a lot of research involved but it didn’t feel like it was preachy or thick with instructive outlines. It is easy enough to read but I would have liked a bit more personality in the words. I know I’ll go back to this book again in the future which says a lot about the content.” I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book wasn’t for me so I handed it over to my fellow reviewer as I often do when I come across a book I just don’t like. Sometimes our opinions are very similar while other times we have drastically different opinions as was the case for this book. I could have taken a nap while someone read this to me but my reading cohort swears it’s chock full of valuable resources and information that could really make a difference when you strike out on your own. She swears that it is written in a way anyone can understand it and garner tidbits that will help in everything from an interview to running your own shop. My rating: 3 of 5 stars

For self-help books this one is presented and written much better. It follows a logical direction and layout with valid points. Each point is explained and detailed nicely. Even the areas that didn’t apply to me felt well written. While I’m not a fan of these sorts of books I feel this one is done well enough that I can easily recommend it to all readers. There’s something in this one for everyone. I do feel it got a bit lengthy at times but not overly so. Overall this is a solid self-help book I feel will be checked out by many of my patrons. For anyone trying to teach Drama, it can be a daunting experience. That’s where this book comes in with various explanations on how to handle small yet important aspects of a scene and so much more. Johnson presents the information in an easy to understand layout with easy to learn “demonstrations”. I like the way everything is written and believe this would make an excellent companion for any teacher trying to teach others how to act, be it for school plays, Sunday School plays or other theatre settings. More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids' Go-To Person about SexMore Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So many parents get befuddled when they try to have a frank discussion with their children about sex. Children sense the awkwardness, the embarrassment, the confusion, and they attach those to the experience of sex. Being able to sit down with them and have a conversation filled with trust, confidence and facts will help prepare them for the encounters they -will- have in life. McKee does a fine job at laying it out in a manner that is easy to understand and digest. Even parents who feel they have a good grasp on the topic could benefit from reading this book. Overall it is well designed and easy to read and is filled with valuable information. I received an ARC through Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

We found this book to be enlightening and uplifting with practical real life examples to back up everything the author was telling the reader. Prayer does make a difference and even saves lives. We bring everything to God in prayer and believe firmly He will never place more than we can handle on our plates. No matter how difficult things seem there is always brightness in the future. This book reinforces our beliefs and makes a wonderful gift for those who might need the same. An ARC was provided by Chosen Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Review by Amanda & Family.
