More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So many parents get befuddled when they try to have a frank discussion with their children about sex. Children sense the awkwardness, the embarrassment, the confusion, and they attach those to the experience of sex. Being able to sit down with them and have a conversation filled with trust, confidence and facts will help prepare them for the encounters they -will- have in life. McKee does a fine job at laying it out in a manner that is easy to understand and digest. Even parents who feel they have a good grasp on the topic could benefit from reading this book. Overall it is well designed and easy to read and is filled with valuable information. I received an ARC through Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

In Life Unstuck you find peace, just as the title suggests. I like the way the book reads and how with each reading I did feel more at peace. Layton clearly thought through each of the points presented and leads the reader along the path towards a calmness inside. I am very pleased with the layout and content and feel this particular book makes a perfect gift, even if to yourself. My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a very in depth motivational book not meant for the quick read or skimming. There is a vast amount of research that obviously went into this book. It is full of examples and references to back up everything the author presents to the reader. Every point he makes he brings around to teach the reader how God notices us and will never forget us. Overall this is a very good read for those searching for meaning in their lives. I received an evaluation copy through Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review. This is good book for those needing practical advice on how to act while telling a story or giving a presentation. There is nothing new or spectacular here but for those who prefer a religious angle, those readers may prefer this book and get more out of it. I’d recommend this more towards those in the beginning stages. Overall it is a decent book and an easy read. I received an evaluation through Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. This is a very well written book aimed at married couples regardless of the stage of the marriage they are in. Every marriage needs help, some more than others. This book provides the steps needed to work through every issue and stage with God. While I am not married, I did find the book informative and something I would want to use should I ever decide to share my life with another. It is well presented and full of valuable information. The topic of this book is a difficult one for many. While it’s not easy to connect with the author it’s still a good read. For me it feels a bit disjointed, jumbled about with incomplete thoughts. The risk is real and for those who can’t understand how people get pulled into such horrors or why they can’t escape, this makes an enlightening read. How do you get through?

How do you get through those less than savory days? Those days when the whole world seems set against you? Those days that stretch into weeks and even sometimes, months?

For some it’s purely faith, for others it’s a combination of faith and something tangible. Having that tangible thing, whatever it may be, can make all the difference. Be it an animal, a child, a spouse, or something altogether different… We all need that something to help us through those times.

For me? Sometimes it’s just seeing that smile on my little guys face. Sometimes it’s my cat giving me his adorable purr and rub. Sometimes it’s just a few nice words from a stranger. Sometimes it’s reading just the right words in a book. Whatever it is, it makes it so much easier.

What gets you through your tough times?

Five out of five stars.
I have not read any of the Sisterchicks books prior to reading this but now I think I would like to get my hands on them. I loved reading the various devotions and felt I could connect with many of them easily. The format makes this book easy and fun to use. The quotes are a nice addition as well. This was very well put together. I love the wisdom and intelligence poured into this work. I’d say its one of the better devotional type books on the market and would recommend this to anyone looking for a pickmeup, devotions, or just some positivity in their lives. If you have yet to hear the word Sisterchick let me enlighten you. SISTERCHICK® n.: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. – See more here.
