This is a cute collection of brief stories about friendship. It’s short, easy to read, easy to pick up and set aside when you are interrupted. It’s a great gift for that close friend. Camp isn’t the author but she did a fine job collecting and editing the book. While I am not so sure I’d purchase it myself, I would pick it up while waiting somewhere or to thumb through when I didn’t want to get into a book only to have to set it down again. I can think of a few friends I’d give this to as a gift. Overall it’s a nice collection in a physical format of things you can find on a blog in a nice compact book. If you are a Christian and you feel you have a hectic life then this book just may help you out in ways you may not have considered. The book is easy to read and understand with a wealth of information. Several points I found myself nodding and feeling like it was written about me. Other points I could see how a person could get that way or feel that way and I was thankful to have a path towards less chaos. Anyone who relies on To-Do lists or tries to, will understand the point of this book. I like that it has a Christian theme without being preachy. Review by Christina: “I liked the wealth of information that I found in reading this book. There seems to be a lot of research involved but it didn’t feel like it was preachy or thick with instructive outlines. It is easy enough to read but I would have liked a bit more personality in the words. I know I’ll go back to this book again in the future which says a lot about the content.” I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book wasn’t for me so I handed it over to my fellow reviewer as I often do when I come across a book I just don’t like. Sometimes our opinions are very similar while other times we have drastically different opinions as was the case for this book. I could have taken a nap while someone read this to me but my reading cohort swears it’s chock full of valuable resources and information that could really make a difference when you strike out on your own. She swears that it is written in a way anyone can understand it and garner tidbits that will help in everything from an interview to running your own shop. For self-help books this one is presented and written much better. It follows a logical direction and layout with valid points. Each point is explained and detailed nicely. Even the areas that didn’t apply to me felt well written. While I’m not a fan of these sorts of books I feel this one is done well enough that I can easily recommend it to all readers. There’s something in this one for everyone. I do feel it got a bit lengthy at times but not overly so. Overall this is a solid self-help book I feel will be checked out by many of my patrons. Some lessons are more difficult than others. Sometimes we need just a little push in the right direction and sometimes those little pushes come in the form of animals. Who would have thought that a donkey would be the little push for this family, much less any family. The tale is adorable and filled with practical and valuable life lessons. I love how personal the book is and how easy it is to read. This is a great story and tool for all stages of life and all ages. I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review. More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids' Go-To Person about SexMore Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So many parents get befuddled when they try to have a frank discussion with their children about sex. Children sense the awkwardness, the embarrassment, the confusion, and they attach those to the experience of sex. Being able to sit down with them and have a conversation filled with trust, confidence and facts will help prepare them for the encounters they -will- have in life. McKee does a fine job at laying it out in a manner that is easy to understand and digest. Even parents who feel they have a good grasp on the topic could benefit from reading this book. Overall it is well designed and easy to read and is filled with valuable information. I received an ARC through Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

In Life Unstuck you find peace, just as the title suggests. I like the way the book reads and how with each reading I did feel more at peace. Layton clearly thought through each of the points presented and leads the reader along the path towards a calmness inside. I am very pleased with the layout and content and feel this particular book makes a perfect gift, even if to yourself. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an excellent tool for those who need a bit of reassurance that they are worth something in this world of negativity. So many feel they need to adhere to some standard held high above them when in reality they are perfect just the way they are. All you need to be is the person you are, the way God made you. Gerth has provided a much needed book on a much needed topic, especially for the younger woman. We need to give our young girls a more realistic and appropriate image to strive for. I enjoyed reading through this book and can easily recommend it to others. I received an ARC through Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
