More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids' Go-To Person about SexMore Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex by Jonathan McKee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So many parents get befuddled when they try to have a frank discussion with their children about sex. Children sense the awkwardness, the embarrassment, the confusion, and they attach those to the experience of sex. Being able to sit down with them and have a conversation filled with trust, confidence and facts will help prepare them for the encounters they -will- have in life. McKee does a fine job at laying it out in a manner that is easy to understand and digest. Even parents who feel they have a good grasp on the topic could benefit from reading this book. Overall it is well designed and easy to read and is filled with valuable information. I received an ARC through Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

This is a very in depth motivational book not meant for the quick read or skimming. There is a vast amount of research that obviously went into this book. It is full of examples and references to back up everything the author presents to the reader. Every point he makes he brings around to teach the reader how God notices us and will never forget us. Overall this is a very good read for those searching for meaning in their lives. I received an evaluation copy through Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review. This is good book for those needing practical advice on how to act while telling a story or giving a presentation. There is nothing new or spectacular here but for those who prefer a religious angle, those readers may prefer this book and get more out of it. I’d recommend this more towards those in the beginning stages. Overall it is a decent book and an easy read. I received an evaluation through Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. The first time I looked through this book I thought how wonderful this would be for a first time parent struggling with children who seem to be anything but what they should. I didn’t give it much more than a cursory glance through that first time. Each subsequent time I picked it up to read and review I found myself easily distracted with my children and other parts of life that always seem to demand my attention. I eventually forgot about the book. It wasn’t until a good friend of mine was asking me for advice on how to handle a situation developing with one of her children that I thought about this book. I brought it with me that evening and together we looked up a relevant topic. We ended up going through a bit more of the book that night, with pauses for prayer and tending to the needs of family. I left the book with her. The next time we sat down together she told me this book has changed her life. No more does she feel frazzled and unsure how to handle each crisis with one of her children. Instead, she turns to this book and with prayer she feels confident she’s making the right choices. Her children are much happier and headed in the right direction. Just seeing her less stressed makes me feel great. So, no, I didn’t read and review this book but I can say with all honesty that it’s a great resource and a perfect gift for any patent. I originally received a free copy through Baker Publishing in exchange for a review but I have since purchased two more copies for two families who I feel could really use this.

He loves this book and says its a perfect companion for every father needing a little direction or just reassurance they are doing right by their daughter.
