My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Overall I feel this book is a worthwhile read. The characters are fairly well developed, at least enough that they don’t feel like cardboard cutouts and each feels like their own mind. The plot is unique and well crafted. The story is intriguing which adds to the worthwhile-ness of the read. I don’t like the format as it gives the book a rough draft feel. The book could use an editor to fix the minor mistakes in grammar and punctuation. Otherwise this is a fresh view on an important issue wrapped up in a mystery suspense thriller with a dash of sci-fi. Kroes has a good grasp of what makes a good story. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

Fingers in the Mist by O’Dell Hutchison

Fingers in the MistFingers in the Mist by O’Dell Hutchison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hutchison does a fine job crafting a creepy tale that will leave many readers sleeping with a light on, or at least reading with an extra one on. The writing is intelligently written with no glaring mistakes to distract the reader. A few moments during my read I felt a hint of familiarity but each time Hutchison took a fresh path making this feel unique. The characters are well fleshed and layered adding to the enjoyment of the read. The plot is well planned and threaded with enough extras blended in to keep the reader both guessing and wanting to read the entire book. Overall I feel this is an entertaining read for a wide age and genre range. I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

This is one of those books you curl up in the comfy reading place, be it a rocker or a window ledge or your bed, and enjoy the whole reading experience. The writing is well done and nicely edited with lovely characters brought to life with a nice layered method. The plot is enjoyable and moves along at a nice even pace. Overall this is a nice book that’s enjoyable and entertaining. I received an evaluation copy from the author in exchange for an honest opinion and review. In no way has this influenced my opinion.

Understanding that this is more along the lines of historical fiction than just another lycan story we were able to become lost in the story and enjoy it greatly. The writing is intelligently done with a fine editing job. Although at times there feels to be a bit more telling or explaining then showing I feel it fits the authors style and intention with this book. The whole work feels well researched and clearly has a lot of work going into it. This was a very enjoyable read and an author to keep a watch on for future releases. I admit I was hooked right from the beginning and enjoyed reading this book. While it may not have the most in depth world building or the most layered fleshed out characters, both elements were within the book just enough to give a good idea of the world and characters. The writing was very well done making this a real page-turning enjoyable read. I received an evaluation copy in exchange for my honest unbiased review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

Summer of Joy by Ann H. Gabhart

While this book is well written it doesn’t have much going on between the pages. It’s slow going from start to finish so those looking for drama action and anything the least bit exciting, look elsewhere. For those who like a nice slow easy read with various subjects but nothing beyond a slice of life, read on. I wasn’t fond of this book so instead of giving it a DNF, I handed it to my friend who loves this sort of read. She says the characters came to life right from the start and loves the descriptions of what is going on and around them, and says the dialogue reads like real conversations. I’ll take her word on it while reading something else. I received an evaluation copy from Revell in exchange for an honest opinion and review. In no way has this influenced our opinion.

This book is well worth the read even with the minor issues. With a bit more work and editing it’s easily a four star book and perhaps a five star. The writing is good. The characters are each unique with personalities and flaws befitting them. The plot is interesting enough to keep the reader engaged even through the slow parts. Certain scenes felt unpolished or roughly edited. Overall there’s potential for a solid fantasy and I would still recommend this to fantasy fans as is. I’m looking forward to seeing how this author develops and would defiantly read future releases. I received an evaluation copy from the author in exchange for an honest opinion and review. Well written love story that gently takes your hand and slowly leads you along as the tale is told. Although the plot moves a bit slowly it’s still an enjoyable read with believable characters. I was pleased with the writing style and effort to cleanly edit this book. Well worth the read by those who enjoy nice love stories. I loved looking through the recipes and drooling over the beautifully done photographs. The recipes are easy to locate and have relatively easy to follow instructions but they are not for the novice in the kitchen. Most of the ingredients are easy to find if you live near a larger city. This would make a lovely addition to the bookshelf of someone who loves cooking. I received an evaluation copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest opinion and review. First off, this would have been five stars if not for the cliffhanger ending. To me it read more like the book was just divided up into sections to make it into a series. The author has her own explanation included in the book. That said, the writing was very well done and nicely edited. The plot was well woven through the story with believable fleshed out characters. Helen comes across genuine and you can’t help but connect with her and feel her emotions as she experiences them. The rape and subsequent emotional reactions were handled with as much grace as can be given a situation and without the unrealistic dramatic recovery so often found in books touching that topic. Overall this was an entertaining read that drew me in with the first chapter. I received an evaluation copy from Story Cartel in exchange for an honest opinion and review. I almost didn’t get through this book due to the parts of the plot that seemed to move along at a snails pace. The rest of the book was interesting and for the most part told an interesting story. I was not thrilled with a particular point in the story but it didn’t take too much away from the book as a whole. The characters seem true to the setting, which works for the story but made it a bit more difficult to connect with them. I’d recommend this to fans of the setting or historical romance. Interesting plot lines that connect nicely from the first book, which you don’t have to read to enjoy this one but it does make for a better read. The writing is well done which makes this an enjoyable read. A few things felt unfinished but they were minor and didn’t affect the overall story. The characters are well developed with each having their own personalities and flaws. There’s plenty of drama wrapped up in this romance. The Healer by Jeffrey G. Roberts

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The writing is done intelligently with a fairly well done editing job. I found my mind wandering a few times during the course of reading this one. The plot idea is intriguing and has potential for a riveting read, it just needs a bit more work and polish to be a four star book. Some of the dialogue didn’t feel natural. While the science behind it all felt understood by the author there was a bit more telling going on than showing with a bit too much information at times. Overall it was an interesting read and one I think some sci-fi readers might enjoy for a change of pace. I’d keep a watch for future releases by this author. I have a very close friend who can’t get enough of this genre and begged me to read this when it arrived. As I have a stack of to-be-read books already on my desk I agreed. After reading this book she gave high praise for how well the story was brought to life and how captivated she was through the entire book. In her own words “Mesu has breathed a breath of fresh and stimulating air into an otherwise dull and often passed over story.” She also mentioned it was not necessary to read the first three books in the series to enjoy this one. Personally I liked the cover and the part I did read before turning the book over to my dear friend. I’d recommend this to anyone who would enjoy a biblical story brought to life.
