While this is certainly a very interesting read, as a cookbook I feel it has a very limited audience. I admit I enjoyed reading about the various recipes and pondered over the various tastes. However, I don’t feel I would be spending the time, energy and resources to hunt down the list of ingredients I would need to prepare many of the dishes. Should I come across them, there is a good chance I’ll pick them up just so I can try one of the recipes. This might be an indication that my pantry is rather limited, but I didn’t exactly grow up with a professional chef. I would still recommend this cookbook to those who consider themselves advanced in the kitchen or as a gift for someone who loves to cook. Overall it is a great coffee table book at the very least and provides for an interesting read. I received an ARC through Blogging For Books in exchange for an honest review.

  1. This sounds like the kind of cookbook I’d love. Due to severe food allergies, I have to make everything from scratch. I love finding cookbooks that don’t reference mixes or other pre-prepared ingredients as parts of a recipe. I get very frustrated when something is billed as simple, but actually just uses pre-made ingredients (ex: a cake mix or a can of spaghetti sauce vs. making it fresh).

    • I won’t keep a cookbook that claims to have anything good, yet the recipes are calling for boxed/canned/processed stuff. Then again, I want to be able to locate the ingredients so I can make the recipe! I’m very picky when it comes to cookbooks. Some I thought I’d love but then I never use them. I have one I leave out just because it looks so pretty. The ones I use are stained and have lots of notes in them. My favorite was printed the year I was born!
We have allergies in our home too, so I am careful what I buy, fix, spray etc.
