While the writing is nicely done and Sanna is certainly skilled in painting scenery and vivid images I just could not connect with any of the characters. They seem generally well fleshed out but I just did not like them. When you don’t like the characters you’re reading about it makes it very difficult to like the rest of the book. I’m not so certain about any of the historical accuracy so I’ll leave that part silent. The writing is good and I do like the idea for the main plot thread but it just didn’t do anything for me. Overall it reads more like a rough draft with a few high points and a lot of low points. I received an ARC through The Reading Room in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion, which is my own and may differ from yours.
